FMI's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles. 

Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles. 

Your role:  FMI  is seeking an EHS Specialist to provide full-time environmental health and safety support for all locations, with a focus on environmental activities. As the EHS Specialist , you will ensure that all activities are regulatory compliant and follow company policies. You will be responsible for developing regulatory programs, managing permitting applications, supervising the development, implementation and management of comprehensive employee safety and health programs, with a focus on maintaining environmental regulatory compliance.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain management information systems that identify the location of hazardous materials in all facilities
  • Develop and maintain the Environmental regulatory calendar
  • Maintain all actions required to maintain Environmental compliance
  • Organize and maintain all required records
  • Act as point of contact for regulatory agencies
  • Make business decisions supporting regulatory compliance
  • Update and deliver employee training programs related to Environmental, Health and Safety
  • Supervise the work of outside contractors involved in removing or testing hazardous materials
  • Investigate employee complaints concerning exposure to hazardous materials or air pollutants
  • Maintain accurate records related to chemical inventories, complaint investigations and shipment of hazardous waste
  • Perform related audits as required
  • Maintain operation and inspection logs as required by regulatory agencies
  • Submit clear and concise written reports based on audits
  • Recommend and coordinate the development of programs needed by Federal and State to comply with hazardous materials regulations
  • Provide coordination with regulatory agencies concerning hazardous materials
  • May be asked to handle hazardous waste per hazardous waste procedures
  • Administer the SDS program
  • Administer H&S training programs to meet corporate and legal requirements
  • Perform accident and incident investigation and make recommendations to eliminate future occurrences
  • Maintain knowledge of basic OSHA safety and Occupational Health regulations

What we need from you:

  • Degree in EHS related field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in an Environmental Health and Safety role
  • Team player and able to build and maintain relationships both internal and external
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations
  • Good communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with a team and independently when required
  • Flexible to change and open to constructive feedback
  • MS Office computer skills and basic knowledge of ERP systems
  • Coaching experience
  • Cross functional project management
  • High level of organizational skills
